English-Speaking Psychiatrist in Colombia

For people who live, work, or travel between Colombia and the United States. Available in English y en español.

TL;DR: A US-trained, Colombian-born bilingual psychiatrist offering psychiatric care that travels with you between Colombia and the United States — psychotherapy, medication management, and integrative care, in Spanish or English, with continuity across both countries.

Most people who split their lives between Colombia and the United States already know how hard it is to find good mental health care that travels with them. You start with one psychiatrist in Bogotá, another in Miami, hand-carry records, repeat your history every six months — and somewhere in the middle, the actual care suffers.

I built this part of my practice for that exact problem.

I built this part of my practice for that exact problem.

Who I am

I was born and became a Medical Doctor in Colombia (medical degree from Universidad de Los Andes), and completed my residency in psychiatry and my fellowship in child & adolescent psychiatry at UPMC in the United States. I am board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both psychiatry and child & adolescent psychiatry, and I am licensed in Florida, New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. I work fluently in both languages — not just in conversation, but in the clinical work itself, which is a different skill — and I understand both healthcare systems, both clinical cultures, and the translating process that happens when you live life in both countries.

Who this is for

This may be a good fit if:

  • You're an expat or American living in Colombia and want a psychiatrist who can work with you in English, Spanish or Spanglish without translation getting in the way.

  • You're a Colombian living in the United States and want care that genuinely understands your context — not just your language.

  • You're a diplomat, NGO worker, journalist, or international professional who moves between the two countries and needs continuity of care across borders.

  • You're part of a binational family — your child, partner, or parent splits time between countries — and you want one clinician who can see the whole picture.

  • You're traveling between countries for work, family, or a season of life, and you want your psychiatric care to keep up.

If you've ever felt like you belong to many parts at the same time, this kind of care is built for you.

What I offer

  • Psychiatric medication management, with attention to medications available (and named differently) in each country.

  • Psychotherapy in Spanish or English — psychodynamic therapy, parent management training, and ADHD skills.

  • Comprehensive autism evaluations (ADOS-2, MIGDAS-2, ADI-R) for children, adolescents and adults.

  • Integrative psychiatry — supplements, lifestyle medicine, executive function support — when indicated.

  • Continuity of care across borders, including coordination with your other providers (primary care, therapists, schools) in either Colombia or the United States.

  • Immigration and asylum evaluations, when needed.

How care across borders actually works

Most of my work with patients connected to Colombia is by telehealth, which makes geography largely irrelevant — we can meet whether you're in Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena, or anywhere else with a stable internet connection. I offer occasional in-person meetings in Bogotá.

Where prescribing or in-person follow-up needs to happen locally, I'll coordinate with a clinician on the ground so your care stays connected rather than fragmented.

A note on prescribing across countries

Medication prescribing across two countries is more nuanced than prescribing in one — different regulatory systems, different brand names, different availability. We'll talk through your specific situation honestly during the consultation, and I'll be straightforward about what I can prescribe directly and where we'll need to work with a local prescriber. I have years of experience doing this with no problems for my clients.

Common questions

What languages do you work in? English and Spanish — both fluently, in clinical work as well as conversation. My experience having worked as a physician in the USA and in Colombia, and providing care to people in both countries will translate into a seamless experience for you.

Are you licensed in Colombia? Yes — I hold an active Colombian medical license alongside my US licenses.

Do you see patients in person in Colombia? Si! Message me and we will coordinate.

Can you prescribe medication while I'm in Colombia? This depends on the medication, the country I'm prescribing from, and your specific situation. We'll talk it through during your consultation and put a plan in place that works in practice in a sustainable and easy manner..

What about insurance and payment? The practice is fee-for-service. We'll discuss costs and possible out-of-network reimbursement options during your consultation.

Do you treat children? Yes — I work with people ages 5 and up. Comprehensive autism evaluations and parent management training are part of what I offer.
